Non-cdl driver requirements

Have you started a non-cdl trucking company? Maybe you have a trucking company that includes non-cdl drivers. Have you searched the internet to find out what the requirements are per FMCSA guidelines? ALL my box truck and hotshot non-cdl carriers and owner operators. You may not be required to hire a cdl driver because you are staying under 26k lbs but, that doesn’t mean you or your driver can hop in the truck and start driving. You still have requirements that you need to meet to be compliant. The following are requirements of your non-cdl company.

Completed Driver Qualification File: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/subtitle-B/chapter-III/subchapter-B/part-391 

  • Completed Driver Application (Must include a list of employers over the last 3 years)

  • MVR Report (Must be pulled annually and signed off on)

  • Copy of Driver’s License (Front and Back)

  • Copy of Medical Card

Electronic Log Books:

Although you are running a non-cdl trucking company if you are running more than 150 mile radios and across state lines you are required to log your hours to be compliant. Note: If you hold a CDL license, no matter if you are driving under or over 26k miles, you are required to follow all CDL regulations and requirements. You will need to have all the above including the following:

  • Clearinghouse Report

  • Pre-Employment Drug Test

  • Placed in a Random Pool
